23 News:

March 2006

An Announcement & Admission: 30
by Skewed Perspective founder & creator Dean Browell

So. How have you been?

For nearly six years now Skewed Perspective.com has hummed along in the background for its contributors. We've continued to grow, albiet in a quieter way that I think speaks to the nature of the site as a force and presence for new work, on its own and without glitz or overstatement.

Never one to be content with understatement, I thought I'd pretend the world gives a crap and say something about a project or two that is coming up of my own. A couple of them, actually.

First...

Everything has been slowed by a combination of real life, academic pursuits and fatherhood. With that said, some interesting things have risen to the top. The good news is, plans have started forming and some very concrete realities and outlets will mean more to share.

Second...

There is/will be a sequel to Extra Heroes: Patterns & Choices. It is called The King of Ideas and is more than half written and entirely plotted. Right now I'm looking to make sure I get it right and it will hopefully debut this time next year. Following that, there will be a third book that is about half-plotted at the moment. That gets us to 2007-2008 where I hope to more actively shop the trilogy around for comic adaption.

Twenty Third...

My first story, 23, will be collected and published in the next year. I am in the process of editing it and preserving it so it still serves as an example of the literary experiment it was (essentially blogging a fictional tale before anybody knew what blogging was). 23 was the original impetus for this site, so it deserves to look good in its new clothes.

...and Thirty.

And now the big announcement. (To me, anyway.)

I have begun work on a new book of realistic fiction called 30. It is a brutally honest lens of not just a milestone age but the strata of emotional ups and downs that dot the twenty-something landscape. It will feature only scant reference to other things I've written and serve up only one major connection (to 2002's "The Funeral Scene").

30 is meant to serve as a bookend to 23 emotionally, but not literally as it features all new characters. To be clear, 23:2 is the sequel to 23. This is not. This is a clean slate that will make 23 look like a children's book written in Latin.

I am taking my time on 30, but major portions may debut on this site. It is not being created in any experimental way. This book will take two years. I'm serious. If it happens in less than that I will be the first one surprised. It will deserve the time its given, I promise.

Finally.

Thanks so much for your continued support of our site. Please come back, you're always welcome. And this site, as long as it stands, will always be free. Will always be a place for some incredible (and incredibly personal) works. We mean it.

Love,

Dean.

For those curious, checkout my latest work, a one-act play entitled: "The Funeral Scene" which is the culmination of the project formerly called "low" and a recognizeable character or two.

February 8, 2002

I think there's a time to quit while your ahead and its possible that time for 23 whisked by as I continued to entertain moments, scenarios and situations with the characters that may or may not have appropriately turned into a story. Maybe that was on page one of 23:1, or page 40 of 23:2, it happened at some point.

And because I'm happy to have spilled the feelings for the electronic page, for good or ill, 23 will be considered wrapped. Other projects are surfacing, and the play "low" (that some may know is loosely tied to the 23 universe) is scratching to be finished. Hope you can come along for those rides, or would enjoy traversing old landscapes by re-reading 23. I'll probably rework this page for a word download of 23:2 and maybe a complete 23:1+2, but that' s it. Of course, I've said that before...

  • *Whew!*
  • Thanks for a fantastic run, I hope you enjoyed it. See you in the Spring/Summer?
  • Drop me a line in the mean time and let me know what you thought of 23:2, or just to say hi...

Nov. 14, 2001:

  • 23:2 is new with #9. "Bar Fly"
  • Season 2 of 23 is almost over! After a week break for Thanksgiving travel we will return with #10, the finale.
  • BTW, a happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate...

Nov. 7, 2001:

Nov. 1, 2001:

  • 23:2 is new with #7. Finally, everybody meets. Ka-Boom.

Oct. 23, 2001:

  • "Seasons" will be how I address the different 23:parts from here on out. I realized this is how I think of them, and it's silly of me to be too lofty and keep the "23:#" thing going like some ugly book. So 23:2, or Season 2 will be wrapping in about 5 chapters (give or take) and it leaves me open to do more...Thanks for reading.
  • low. is on a temporary hiatus as it gets rewritten.

Thanks for sticking around.
